Community Connections: Reflecting on a Meaningful Weekend for Elliot Lake Palliative Care
This past weekend was one filled with heart, connection, and community spirit — and we were honoured to be a part of it.
Elliot Lake Palliative Care had the opportunity to take part in two wonderful events: the Seniors Expo and the Community Showcase. Both events were a beautiful reminder of the compassion that lives within this town and the importance of showing up for one another.
🌿 Seniors Expo: A Celebration of Wisdom and Wellbeing
Held at Collins Hall, the Seniors Expo brought together organizations and services dedicated to supporting older adults in our region. We had meaningful conversations with seniors, caregivers, and families who were curious about how palliative care fits into a person’s journey — not just at the end, but throughout illness, transition, and healing.
Visitors stopped by our booth to pick up resources, ask thoughtful questions, and in some cases, to share their own stories of care and loss. These moments reminded us of the vital role that human connection plays in palliative care, and how simply listening can be a powerful act.
🏡 Community Showcase: Bridging Generations, Building Awareness
The Community Showcase gave us the chance to meet people of all ages, from teens asking what “palliative” means, to caregivers looking for support for a loved one, to professionals in the community curious about how to collaborate. We loved the energy of this event — a true cross-section of Elliot Lake coming together to learn, grow, and uplift one another.
Both events also gave us the chance to highlight our Volunteer Training Program, which continues to grow thanks to the generous, compassionate people who step forward to be present for others in vulnerable times. 💬 What We Took Away
People want to help — and many simply need a path to get started.
Awareness leads to access. The more we talk about palliative care, the more we reduce fear and create support systems for those who need it.
To everyone who visited us, asked a question, shared a hug, or took a pamphlet — thank you. 💜 You helped us further our mission of bringing compassion and presence to individuals and families across Elliot Lake.
We’re grateful to be a part of this community and look forward to more opportunities to connect in the future.
We are absolutely grateful for all the support,
The Elliot Lake Palliative Care Team
